In some special application scenarios or specific products, both insulated bearings and hybrid ceramic bearings have insulation properties, but due to the differences in their applicable occasions, their preferred advantages are also different.
Insulated bearings are insulated by using a special process on the outer surface of the inner or outer ring of the bearing. The outer surface is covered with a layer of aluminum oxide material with a thickness of about 100 microns, which can withstand a DC voltage of 1000V, while the internal structure of the bearing is the same as that of an ordinary bearing. As an inorganic compound with high hardness, high temperature resistance and strong chemical stability, alumina is widely used in the fields of industry, medical treatment, environmental protection and daily life. Its reliable combination with the bearing surface can ensure that the insulated bearing meets the same rigidity requirements as ordinary bearings without affecting the dimensional accuracy of the bearing and matching parts.

Since the aluminum oxide layer has reliable bonding and continuity, insulated bearings can effectively block the shaft current loop, so they are widely used in shaft current avoidance scenarios of motor products. In addition, their consistency with ordinary bearing sizes avoids the design difference problem of matching parts.

Insulated bearings are divided into two types: internal insulation and external insulation. The insulation layer of the external insulation bearing is located on the outer surface of the outer ring, while the insulation layer of the internal insulation bearing is located on the outer surface of the inner ring. In comparison, the internal insulation bearing has a smaller coating surface area, greater impedance, and better insulation effect.

The special feature of hybrid ceramic bearings is that the rolling element material is silicon nitride ceramics, which has excellent properties such as high hardness, good self-lubrication, strong wear resistance, high temperature oxidation resistance, and resistance to thermal shock. Hybrid ceramic bearings with silicon nitride ceramic as rolling element material are lightweight and have both electrical insulation and high-speed operation performance. Hybrid ceramic bearings are more suitable for applications where high-speed operation and low shaft voltage are required. If the electrical insulation effect is considered, the insulated bearing has more advantages. If the high speed performance is considered, the hybrid ceramic bearing will perform better. The selection of the two types of bearings should be based on specific needs.
