Tapered roller bearings are mainly suitable for bearing combined radial and axial loads, with radial loads being dominant. Large tapered roller bearings can be used to bear combined radial and axial loads, with axial loads being dominant. Tapered roller bearings are separable bearings; their inner ring assembly (with tapered rollers and cage) and outer ring can be installed separately, making assembly and disassembly convenient.
Types of tapered roller bearings
Single row tapered roller bearings
The main structure of single-row tapered roller bearings is type 30000. This type of bearing can limit the axial displacement of the shaft or housing in one direction and withstand axial loads in one direction. Single-row tapered roller bearings generate additional axial force under radial load. Therefore, in general, the outer and inner rings of the bearing are installed with their corresponding end faces facing each other in two supports of the shaft. If used alone, the external axial force must be greater than the additional axial force. The 313 series tapered roller bearings have a relatively large contact angle (27°~30°) and can withstand large axial loads. Other series of tapered roller bearings have contact angles between 10° and 18°.

Single row tapered roller bearings can be matched face-to-face, back-to-back or in tandem to deliver specific advantages depending on operating conditions.
Double-row tapered roller bearings
Double-row tapered roller bearings consist of a single outer ring with two raceways and two inner rings, separated by a spacer. By adjusting the thickness of the spacer, the bearing's internal clearance can be precisely controlled. Double row tapered roller bearings are capable of supporting both radial loads and axial loads in both directions simultaneously. Within the axial clearance range of the bearing, they can also limit the bidirectional axial displacement of the shaft or housing.
Double-row tapered roller bearings are commonly used in gearboxes, hoisting equipment, rolling mills, and machinery in the mining industry.
Four-row tapered roller bearings
Four-row tapered roller bearings consist of two double-raceway inner rings, one double-raceway outer ring, and two single-raceway outer rings. Spacers are arranged between both the inner and outer rings to allow for the adjustment of bearing clearance. Four row tapered roller bearings share similar performance characteristics with double-row tapered roller bearings, offering the capability to support heavy radial loads. However, they operate at relatively lower limiting speeds. Four-row tapered roller bearings are primarily used in heavy-duty machinery, such as rolling mills.
