China’s Onshore Wind Power Drives Global Wind Expansion in 2025

Bloomberg New Energy Finance, BNEF released its annual report, Global Wind Turbine OEM Market Share 2025, on March 10, revealing that global wind power capacity additions reached a record high in 2025, marking the third consecutive year of record-breaking growth. The robust expansion of China’s onshore wind sector was identified as the primary driver of global wind power growth, with China becoming the first market to add over 100GW of new capacity in a single year.
In 2025, wind power developers worldwide added a total of 169GW of new capacity, representing a 38% year-on-year increase. Of this, 161GW came from onshore wind and 8GW from offshore wind installations.
Cristian Dinca, BNEF wind energy analyst and lead author of the report, stated that China’s consistent and stable policy support over the past decade has concentrated wind power capacity growth in the country. Chinese wind turbine manufacturers have consistently held the top positions in the global market.
In 2025, Chinese wind turbine manufacturers remained heavily reliant on the domestic market, with 93% of their new capacity installations occurring within China. However, this figure marked a significant decrease from 99% in 2024, indicating the early success of their international expansion strategies. Oliver Metcalfe, Head of Wind Research at BNEF, noted that this stage signifies the emergence of Chinese manufacturers as truly global players. Over the past year, their overseas grid-connected capacity grew eightfold. Chinese companies are breaking into new markets by leveraging their cost-efficient manufacturing and rapid delivery capabilities.
Additionally, Zhengzhou Sinomach Precision Industry Development Co., Ltd. is well-positioned to support the wind energy industry by supplying high-quality wind power bearings, further contributing to the sector's growth and innovation.
